East Street Arts have commissioned four artists as part of the Season for Change programme, ‘The Space Between’:
- Jake Krushell – Turbine
- Nicolas Henninger – Cabanon
- Nwando Ebizie – Extreme Unction Vol.2
- Xavier de Sousa – Regnant
We are hosting a series of events delivered in partnership with local and national climate change organisers.
East Street Arts roots are firmly planted in the Mabgate, Burmantofts and Lincoln Green areas of Leeds. Our work in the area is on-going, placing art right at the heart of the community.
The Space Between puts artists and local communities at the heart of this process through a series of interactive and participatory commissions that bring together science, art, activism and neighbourhoods of Burmantofts, Mabgate and Lincoln Green. These areas of East Leeds were instrumental to Leeds’ growth, manufacturing and industrial past and are currently home to a vibrant and diverse community.
We are part of a community that is working to combat aggressive gentrification. Moreover, we want to produce a programme that re-centres the climate change narrative within the communities most impacted by its outcomes.
Season for Change will run throughout 2021 and will showcase how the UK’s cultural sector responds to the most important issue of our time – the climate crisis – through artistic commissions and an open programme where any artist or arts organisation can submit an event related to climate action or the environment.
