Creative You! LifeSkills Project supports unemployed residents living primarily in the Mabgate, Burmantofts and Lincoln Green neighbourhoods and surrounding areas of Harehills and Gipton to find pathways to employment using arts engagement activities, support, mentoring and advice, alongside the development of a range of lifelong skills to make a successful transition into the labour market.
East Street Arts will deliver a programme of participatory arts activities, digital capability upskilling, practical skills in job search using creative engagement strategies and workplace experiences with participants. We will use the creative education approach to learning and provide practical experience in the creative arts and hospitality to develop a range of transferable skills and knowledge which are useful in the workplace, build their self-esteem, confidence, articulation, communications skills and to signpost them to sustainable support routes to social inclusion, training and/or employability.
The programme will involve the following activities:
- Hands-on activities for each set of 6-week sessions.
- Have 1-2-1 sessions with the Employment Support Coordinator (ESC) every 2 weeks.
- Support for the participants from each cohort over a 2–3-week period to find a short-term workplace shadowing within organisations in the local community and assistance with a job search or access to training opportunity.
- Follow up support for the participants from the ESC after their participation in the programme.
This project is funded by Community Led Local Development (CLLD) which supports using European Social Fund (ESF).
