‘Street Studio’, supported by Leeds Inspired and East Street Arts, took inspiration from roving street based ‘itinerant photographers’ of the late 19th and early 20th century, Jonathan set up his ‘street studios’ at various locations in the community, and produced free portraits for all participants.
Taking over Union 105 and Inkwell, the results were displayed as an exhibition in March and April 2015, with everyone who took part in the project receiving a free publication to accompany the show.
The exhibition opened with a free celebration, including live music and curry courtesy of Leeds Islamic Centre, on 28th March 2015.
Jonathan is a lens-based artist living in Chapeltown, Leeds. His work is primarily portrait based and often deals with issues around identity. He has a long history of working with communities, teaching photography skills and facilitating participatory photography projects.
